Alpha Gamma Rho: Embracing Tradition, Brotherhood, and Diversity
Welcome to Alpha Gamma Rho, where our proud agricultural heritage meets the academic pursuits of young scholars at Cornell University. Recruitment is the lifeblood of our fraternity, and we recognize the importance of adapting to the evolving landscape of higher education. Although the number of agriculture students has declined in recent decades, we remain committed to our agricultural roots while also welcoming students from various majors to ensure our house thrives.
Alpha Gamma Rho's journey began in 1912 with the founding of the Caduceus chapter at Cornell University. The founders, a close-knit group dedicated to agricultural issues, established a legacy that continues today. On December 19, 1914, Caduceus received its charter from the national organization, becoming the Zeta Chapter. Our fraternity has been located at 203 Highland Ave since 1916 and has been home to over 1800 men, fostering strong bonds and lifelong friendships.
AGR is the national agricultural fraternity with sixty-two chapters across the United States. Known for our close brotherhood and friendly reputation, we pride ourselves on being a welcoming and inclusive fraternity. The Zeta Chapter at Cornell University has a rich tradition of producing leaders in diverse fields, thanks to our blend of members with and without agricultural backgrounds. This diversity enriches our fraternity, allowing us to form strong, unique bonds; a cohesive unit— a brotherhood.
Our brothers are active in various organizations outside the house, including philanthropies, community service, varsity and intramural sports, and the Cornell Inter-fraternity Council. Whether hosting social events or simply enjoying each other's company, we create lasting friendships. In a place as vast as Cornell, AGR offers a home where brothers support each other and create rewarding college experiences.
Our purpose is to make better men and, through them, promote a broader and better agriculture. We strive to encourage individual endeavor, resourcefulness, and aggressive effort, fostering the development of mental, social, moral, and physical qualities. By promoting fellowship in a national organization, we aim to provide a wider acquaintance and a broader outlook for agricultural men. Join us at Alpha Gamma Rho and be part of a fraternity that values both its past and future.
About Rush:
Alpha Gamma Rho participates in both Fall and Spring Rush for Potential New Members (PNMs). Freshmen can begin rushing in the spring semester of their freshman year, while only sophomores and transfer students can rush starting in the fall semester. Professional and Educational Opportunities:
Alpha Gamma Rho is unique because it is both a Social and Professional Fraternity. Along with enjoying quality time within the brotherhood and with a plethora of other social groups on campus, the brothers of Alpha Gamma Rho are dedicated to self-improvement through learning and problem-solving. The brothers participate in numerous leadership development courses, leadership conventions, membership development, alumni speakers, and most notably, farm, vineyard, and agricultural facility tours. The educational opportunities that AGR provides, make us stand out among other Cornell groups, proving to develop men who are physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.
Alpha Gamma Rho Zeta Chapter has more than 1,900 alumni and counting. With 70 other chapters nationwide, there are more than 50,000 AGR alumni new and old. I assure you that you will likely cross paths with another brother sooner than later. With such a large alumni network, work and internship opportunities within the agriculture industry or not are endless and likely only a phone call away. Alumni represent various work fields, including Agricultural production, banking, Policymaking in Washington D.C., finance, medicine, genetic improvement of crop plants, and the list goes on and on.
Join us at AGR to make better men through self-improvement, lifelong friendships, and creating the next generation of problem solvers.
